Tonight I brought my dog, Rocky, to Coco the veterinarian. He wasn’t ailing but needed a check-up.
Unfortunately, the vet’s office was not air conditioned, and the patient got pretty overheated. It was a serious appointment, too. He had to be opened up, have a special blood shirt put on and then closed up. There was a lot of checking for blood.
A wrench was tightened around his collar, but the doctor didn’t tell me why.
Apparently, though, Rocky’s leg was broken. It was a good thing the doctor had such late hours. His cast was a lovely boiled-wool slipper with a sheep on it. I’ll have to remember to sign it.

Coco and her friend Cali played “ding dong ditchie” today. You run up to houses, ring the doorbell and run away.
In addition to that, Coco and Cali asked to visit other children around the corner. They walked off down the street together. I told Larry that it was a big moment for me, seeing my daughter go off on her own with a friend.
Sniff.

Minky and I went on mini-vacation yesterday (just overnight)! We saw beautiful Portsmouth, swam in the hotel pool, got room service, saw a “sumb-marine,” and watched the Penguins of Matagascar cartoon on Nickelodeon. It was a very fun trip.
Here is Minky on the “sumb-marine.”

Coco has moved into a new phase of hysterical, uproarious laughter. Last night she watched the 1975 “Strongest Man in the World” movie (which I saw at the drive-in). There were several parts that were highly amusing to her and very earsplitting to me.

Coco asked me to get the “mote control” tonight. I wasn’t sure that’s what she had said at first so I asked her to repeat it. Sure enough: “mote control.” Mignon!

Virtually overnight Coco has stopped sucking her thumb. This is remarkable because she wasn’t just a casual thumb-sucker; she was a professional. Her right thumb was so important to her that at night, before bed, when I put cream on her hands, I had to be extra careful not to get ANY near it.
I thought it was very cute and hope that some kid at school didn’t shame her into giving the habit up.

Coco uses this expression constantly.
“May you please hold my backpack?”
“May you please get me a glass of milk?”
We corrected her this week, so like a lot of her other sweet expressions it will soon be a thing of the past.
